Afterparty

Background

With our extensive experience collaborating on various game projects in different engines, we are quick to adapt to new pipelines and understand each games' needs and goals. Afterparty was already deep in production when Night School brought Well Told on board. They needed help with building out large suites of character emotes for their wide cast of characters.

We quickly understood both the technical needs of the animation pipeline and the stylistic art direction of Afterparty's own special version of Hell and its inhabitants. So we were able to become a crucial part of the team that brought this absurdly visually appealing and stylish game into reality.

Pushing for Contrast & Appeal

Lola and Milo are two best friends, but couldn't be more opposite. While Lola is confident, sarcastic and assertive...Milo is timid and skittish. There is an appeal in contrast, so our aim was to build emotes for each of the characters in a way that made those unique personality differences shine.

Shooting From Experience

Having met in college, we were perfect candidates to find the right vibe of two kids partying their way through hell. Built up of a team of people with differing personalities, we were able to pull all kinds of actions and mannerisms via video reference. Animation Director Jen Re, notably very introverted, was perfect in finding the timid nature of Milo. Whereas other animators on the team knew exactly what kind of pose to strike for a confident demon sinking the last ball in a game of beer pong.

Building Unique Moments

In narrative games, world building matters. Crafting story moments not just within, but around the main cast, is key to good environmental storytelling. On this project we got to animate some of the bite sized moments that helped immerse the player in this world and its story.

The team at Well Told has delivered on every front with flying colors. I am not exaggerating when I say that we trust their crew with just about any facet of our games' production.
